This North Carolina Dept. of Pollution Prevention contract demonstrated methods for diversion of supermarket food wastes to composting. The compost produced from these materials was made into high value planting mixes and potting soils, which were developed with organic vegetable growers. Guidelines for compost applications were created based on chemical, physical and biological qualities of final products. Growth chamber studies showed up to 84% suppression of Damping Off disease (Rhizoctonia solani).
